Portland, Oregon April 14, 2008 — The first annual Sustainable Tourism Award was presented to the Portland Spirit and Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler on April 6, 2008 as part of the 2008 Oregon Governor's Conference on Tourism. The Sustainability Award is the first award of its type for the Governor's Conference, which annually recognizes people and organizations who contribute positively to state tourism.
Per the Governor's Conference selection criteria, the award “recognizes an individual, business, organization, program, community or region which has demonstrated a strong commitment to conserving Oregon's natural and cultural resources by leading in environmental stewardship and socially responsible practices in the tourism and hospitality industry.”
In addition to the Sustainable Tourism Award, the Portland Spirit is a recipient of the 2007 RecycleWorks Award for its contributions to a reduced impact on the environment, recycling and sustainable programs onboard and within the corporate facilities.
