CAPTAIN - Portland

Responsibilities:

  • -Complete Portland Spirit Deckhand, Senior Deckhand and Engineering training
  • -Knowledgeable of all boats engines and other mechanical equipment.
  • -Know the state of repair and readiness of your vessel.
  • -Manage the operations staff on duty and operate Portland Spirit vessels in a manner that insures compliance with USCG regulations, federal law and the standards, policies and procedures set forth by Portland Spirit and Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler.
  • -Insure a positive and professional image of the operations department to the other departments, passengers and general public through performance, attitude and appearance.
  • -Possess an in depth knowledge of the lower Willamette and lower Columbia rivers.
  • -Deliver safety announcements (and narration when applicable) over public address system.
  • -Work closely with Cruise Manager and Chef to create a safe and pleasant working environment, cooperation between departments and compliance with all company policies and procedures as well as the highest quality presentation possible to our guests and the general public.
  • -Identify safety and maintenance projects and determine practicality of delegating repairs to operations staff on duty or filing a repair order. Schedule contract labor as needed to maintain cruise schedule.
  • -Train and educate Deck, Sr. Deck and Engineers in the rules of the road, navigation, chart work and the practices of good seamanship. Encourage advancement within the company and acquisition of M.M.D’s.
  • -Train operations crew in public relations, including, but not limited to, dealing with intoxicated persons and assisting children and physically challenged people.
  • -Present status reports and recommendations to the operations manager regarding promotion, demotion and termination of operations personnel.
  • -Enforce disciplinary action within the guidelines of the department and the company.
  • - Authorize and arrange voyage repairs to ensure that your vessel does not miss a scheduled cruise.

DECKHAND - Portland

Responsibilities:

  • -Completion of AWI deck and Senior Deckhand safety training.
  • -Thorough knowledge of the safety equipment location and use on all AWI boats and emergency response of all crew (food & beverage, bar, and galley).

Position will be directly responsible for all related styles of service, including, but not limited to, table side, banquet, and cocktailing. Main focus will be to ensure customer perceives high value of service provided and true customer satisfaction. Flexible schedule, with emphasis on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • -Assist in marine operations as necessary, including, but not limited to, safety drills, ship cleanliness, and deckhand duties.
  • -Involved in all facets of customer services and amenities provided to guests.
  • -Responsible for daily record keeping and handling money outlined by the Accounting Department and Service Management.
  • -Adheres to side work, set-up and close down, procedures and ensures ship cleanliness.
  • -Maintains a high level of customer service.
  • -Adheres to uniform policy and tip policy, monitors product costs, and initiates teamwork.

CRUISE MANAGER - Portland

Portland Spirit - Portland, OR

As a Cruise Manager, you are responsible for all cruise service staff and services aboard the Portland Spirit cruises. You will be directly responsible for managing cruises, as well as, all duties set forth for the administration of service department. Your main focus will be to ensure customer perceives high value of service provided and true customer satisfaction. You must possess a willingness to do whatever needs to be done to insure that the vessels of the AWI fleet look and perform to the standards of the company.
Ideal candidates must have a flexible schedule, with emphases on weekends, evenings and holidays.
Cruise managers must complete a pre-employment drug test and will continue to be enrolled in random D.O.T. drug testing schedule per Coast Guard regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • -Communicates regularly with Executive Service Director to ensure high level of customer service and a consistency in operation.
  • -Responsible for daily record keeping, relevant to a specific cruise, including but not limited to end of cruise paperwork. Record keeping is specific and you are to use the guidelines given by the Accounting Department and Service Manager.
  • -Responsible for all aspects and details of the cruise, oversight includes cruise time lines, product quality, staff appearance, coordination of seating charts and floor plans, inspection of aesthetics and safety of the ships and personnel assurance of guest satisfaction.

LEAD COOK - Portland

Will be directly responsible for daily food service operations. Position will be responsible for managing, supervising, and training of all on-board galley personnel. Position will ensure a high level of food quality, while helping to maintain budget figures for labor and food cost. The main focus will be to ensure that the guests perceive a high value of food service and true customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • -Protects the integrity of the executive chefs reputation.
  • -Leads by example; follows all Company quality standards for food preparation, storage and rotation, line cooking procedures, and all safe work practices.
  • -Responsible for maintaining and controlling the overall quality, consistency, preparation, and presentation of all assigned products.
  • -Oversee and assist in the development of menus and the preparation of food.
  • -Communicates with the executive chef, chef, or sales department as to cruise schedule and details to organize the meal service for each function.

Your main focus will be to ensure excellent customer service while assisting passengers and visitors. This position is also directly responsible for processing telephone and in-person reservation requests for individual and small group purchases.

Responsibilities:

  • -Answering high volume of incoming telephone calls and directing calls.
  • -Knowledge of all general information regarding cruise schedules, services, prices and general boat inquiries.
  • -Cash handling and other monetary transactions.
  • -Processing and balancing payments with the Accounting Department.

ASSISTANT MANAGER OF THE VISITOR'S CENTER/LOCKS CAFE

As a Manager, you are responsible for all staff in the Locks Café, Gift Shop, and Customer Service Department. You will be directly responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Visitor Center, as well as all the administrative duties. Your main focus will be to ensure that the customer perceives a high value of service provided and true customer satisfaction. You must be willing to do whatever it takes to insure that the Visitors Center is operated with the standards of the Portland Spirit. SEASONAL BOOKKEEPING CLERK

Responsible for receiving, processing and balancing payments with the Accounting Department. Responsible for information regarding cruise schedules, services, prices, and general boat inquiries. Flexible schedule, with emphases on weekends, evenings and holidays. Seasonal, full-time from April through October. Pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities:

  • -Daily boat and Grill/Gift shop reconciliations.
  • -Deposit receipts at bank.
  • -Petty cash reconciliation (including month end totals).
  • -Report cash deposits back to Portland Office.
  • -Maintaining of accounting paperwork for the boats (i.e., On board credit slips, change requests, manager bank forms, etc).
  • -Collection of forms for distribution to appropriate departments (unclaimed photos, comment cards).
  • -Maintaining security of the office (locking doors, tracking keys).

Skills and Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service experience; communication skills, written and oral.
  • Proficient in English and telephone etiquette.
  • Experience in cash handling and understanding basic math.
  • Knowledgeable in computer programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Typing accuracy, minimum of 30 wpm.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Valid drivers license.

LEAD COOK - Cascade Locks

Will be directly responsible for daily food service operations. Position will be responsible for managing, supervising, and training of all on-board galley personnel. Position will ensure a high level of food quality, while helping to maintain budget figures for labor and food cost. The main focus will be to ensure that the guests perceive a high value of food service and true customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • -Protects the integrity of the executive chefs reputation.
  • -Leads by example; follows all Company quality standards for food preparation, storage and rotation, line cooking procedures, and all safe work practices.
  • -Responsible for maintaining and controlling the overall quality, consistency, preparation, and presentation of all assigned products.
  • -Oversee and assist in the development of menus and the preparation of food.
  • -Communicates with the executive chef, chef, or sales department as to cruise schedule and details to organize the meal service for each function.
  • -Works closely with executive chef, chef, and cruise manager to ensure quality events and services.
  • -Assist with purchasing, receiving, and inventory of galley food and supplies.
  • Perform side work, set-up, and close-down procedures in compliance with federal, sate, and local law as well as company specifications.
  • Assist in the supervision on the kitchen.
  • Assist with the training of all galley personnel.
  • Skills and Requirements:

    • Three years experience in lead or supervisory position in restaurant kitchen environment.
    • Food Handlers card required upon hire.
    • Basic computer skills Ability to work in fast paced environment and work as a team player.
    • Ability to do repeated bending and lifting.
    • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time.

    • Pay range: $10-$12 per hour plus Gratuity - DOE
